Construction of Bunded Extension Concrete Base, Dalbeattie

Client

BSW Timber

Value

£310,000

Date

March - August 2022

The Project

The scheme involved the construction of a bunded reinforced concrete base for the new timber processing facility extension at Dalbeattie. The project was completed in collaboration with our client whose timber processing operations had to be maintained throughout the works by scheduling the project around the continued use of several process tanks which were originally located within the extension footprint. Our scope of work included:

  • Surveys and setting out
  • Construction of structural steelwork foundations
  • Grading the ground levels which had to be raised by 1m in some areas
  • Installation and compaction of subbase
  • Installation of shuttering for the floor slab and bund walls using the RMD Kwikform system
  • Installation of Visqueen waterproof membrane
  • Installation of steel mesh reinforcement and ties
  • 3 off 60m3 floor slab concrete pours
  • Creation of a coarse surface finish for heavy operations traffic
  • Sealing of concrete joints
  • Construction of reinforced concrete bund walls

The floor slab was completed on time whilst working around our client’s existing operational requirements

Challenges and Successes

The site footprint included several operational process tanks which had to be kept running for as long as possible during the works. We scheduled the construction works to complete as much work as possible with the tanks in place and then worked with our client to move the tanks to a new location over a weekend to allow us to continue construction the following week.
