Challenges & successes
Many of the schemes were located in congested housing estates with high volumes of pedestrian and vehicle traffic with a need to maintain access for emergency vehicles. This, combined with project hazards and public interest in the work, caused logistical challenges. To overcome this, we trained our site supervisors in dealing with the public and held regular meetings with local residents and the emergency services to understand and mitigate their concerns.
Our client is funded on an annual basis by central government which required us to flex our work schedule to meet changing framework funding – especially towards the end of the financial year. This required us to work flexibly and to deploy our labour and plant on and off the work as required. We worked closely with the CCC team and our other clients to manage resources between our public and private sector projects to the satisfaction of all parties.
