Challenges & successes
Access to the workface was restricted meaning we couldn’t deliver materials using wagons. To overcome this we used small plant (e.g. 1Te Dumpers and hand barrows) to transport the material to the final workface.
The station remained in use by the public throughout the works. In order to maintain passenger and train safety we established robust pedestrian management and segregation arrangements and worked around the train schedules. We worked closely with the train planners and paused work 10 minutes before trains were due and restarted 10 minutes after trains departed.
