Delivery of reconstruction, resurfacing, pre-surfacing dressing, patching and associated civil construction works throughout North Yorkshire on a 4 year framework contract with task order values between £50,000 and £1,000,000. This work was delivered by our team of 19 DSD staff and operatives deployed from our Harrogate depot. The schemes included:
Many of the schemes were located in rural areas where access for plant and equipment was very challenging and access for local resident was required at all times e.g. country lanes, hamlets and villages. Additionally, many of the schemes required lane closures and traffic management which had the potential to inconvenience to road users.
Through early contractor involvement, we reviewed each site with our client ahead of the works to plan the approach, traffic routes and the type of plant to be used to minimise impact on road users and the local community – especially at night.
In North Yorkshire, we played a key role in the trialling of a new cement bound material (CBM). This material reused tar bound road planings as the aggregate in the new mix, which saved cost and reduced the environmental impact because the hazardous materials are recycled and remain in-situ. The recycling programme involved 26 individual schemes throughout Dalton and Towton in which over 10,000 tonnes of tar bound road planings were recycled and reused in Eurovia’s innovative RecoFoam mixture – delivering a £1.5 million cost saving.
“DSD Construction has always excelled and gone out of their way to help in whatever way they could to complete my works on time, on budget and safely. I would highly recommend them as a company to work with and look forward to continually working with them for a number of years on this and future contracts.”
